Fantuzzi Reach Stacker FAQ
Q. What is this largest unit Fantuzzi make?
A. We have produced a 9m wheel base 70 ton Reach Stacker! It is capable of a negative lift (i.e. lifting onto Barges) of 31 ton in the third row.
Q. What is the smallest Reach Stacker that Fantuzzi make?
A. We produce an Empty Container Reach Stacker which lifts 10 tons in the first row 8 ton in the second and 5 ton in the third.
Q. Do you produce a Rail Stacker or a Barge Stacker?
A. We produce both. Our models RS50 and RS55 can be built on 7 and 7.5 m wheel bases, although we have produced wheel bases of 9m in the past. A great strength of Fantuzzi is flexibility; no matter what your needs we will try to meet them.
Q. Do you produce a “sliding” cabin?
A. Yes. This option is usually specified on “Intermodal” units that will be operating using a “piggy back” spreader.
Q. My operation requires great flexibility because I handle many other products in addition to containers. Do you manufacture a Reach Stacker that can handle containers under twist locks, handle containers on forks and handle bulk under a hook?
A. Yes the Fantuzzi Multi Stacker ! This unit really does prove our “strength in solutions” philosophy. The Multi Stacker can operate a 20-40ft spreader, work on forks, fixed hook, hydraulic winched hook, vacuum, coil boom, clamp, the options are endless. The unique quick hydraulic coupling system enables fast and safe interchange of attachments.
Q.A great deal is made regarding the strength in the Fantuzzi Reach Stacker. In what way are the units strong?
A. The sheer size, strength and engineering of critical components. Fantuzzi holds a vast knowledge of hundreds of applications around the world; this experience of the varying extremes means we build strength into our units; possibly even “over engineering” in certain instances!
Q. What prevents the driver placing too much weight is the second or third row and tipping the Reach Stacker over?
A. All Reach Stackers are fitted with a load weighing system that will detect a possible over load situation, but by no means are they all the same! We use a pressure transducer (KE & KM models) and electronic load cell (KS KL &RS50). Both systems take into account a critical element and one that many of our competitors over look, travel speed! All systems measure the weight of the load and the boom length and angle, initially sounding an alarm if the driver approaches an overload and then cutting the hydraulics if the overload load continues; should this occur the systems needs to be reset by a supervisor with an overload code. Also within the Fantuzzi system we take into account travel speed, travel speed is reduced or restricted if a over load situation is being approached.
Q. Can I lift a container that is on a slight slope?
A. Fantuzzi Reach Stackers allow for the rake or slope on the trailers with mechanical “play” on the spreader of + or – 4 degrees. If containers are on “swap bodies” an option of a hydraulically powered pile slop is available this provides + or – 6 degrees.
Q. The boom is a critical element on a Reach Stacker, what is special about Fantuzzi’s?
A. KS/KL Boom is made from Weldox 700, high tensile steel. Weldox 700 is much stronger than standard steel and actually lighter offering better structural integrity and longevity. No other manufacturer uses a Weldox 700 boom. By using this steel it is possible to stack 6 high (9ft 6in boxes) standard stacking height for our competitors is 5.
Q. Approximately what is the weight of a Reach Stacker?
A. Depending on the model on specification but anything from 70 to 100tons.
Q. What type of ground conditions are needed to run a Reach Stacker?
A. Good solid ground with a very solid sub base. The ground pressure of the tyres is in the region of 9kg per square cm. We would always recommend a survey from a civil engineering company.
Q. What is the distance required between containers stacked - in effect aisle width - to turn a reach stacker?
A. Dependant on model and base but in the region of 15meters.
Q. What is the average number of containers that can be handled by a Reach Stacker per hour?
A. This very much dependant on the layout of the yard, availability of boxes experience of driver etc but can be up to 18 – 19 boxes per hour.
